Nelson Airport Noise Audit
Role: | Expert acoustics consultant |
Client: | Nelson Airport |
Duration: | 2008 and 2013 |
Background
Nelson Airport Limited is New Zealand’s fourth busiest commercial airport. On average, there are 60 commercial passenger flights a day. There are also around 100 flights each day for flight training, air ambulance, helicopter and general aviation.
Every five years, the airport has to monitor its compliance with the Nelson District Plan and air noise boundary.
The challenge
In 2008 the airport asked us to review the ‘Nelson airport noise monitoring plan’. We were also asked to review the airport’s compliance with the adoption and implementation of best practice to minimise any adverse effects from operational noise.
Our solution
Our acoustics expertise and experience provided the airport with accurate and robust data to demonstrate its compliance with all noise control requirements.
Our comprehensive monitoring includes:
- Measuring the maximum day-night average sound level (Ldn)
- Checking compliance with the restrictions on night-time aircraft movements
- Testing compliance of the noise levels from engine testing facilities at the airport
